Dr. Whitlock earned an undergraduate degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from The University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston, Texas and has 30 years of experience in the clinical diagnostics laboratory setting. Dr. Whitlock has held the title of laboratory consultant, laboratory owner and general medical technologist. His graduate work at UTMB focused on mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis, characterization of immune response and vaccine development involving bio-safety level 3 agents. He was awarded a competitive fellowship from the Sealy Center for Vaccine Development, where he continued his work in DNA-based vaccinology and advancement of diagnostics. Dr. Whitlock has authored publications and book chapters in the fields of molecular diagnostics, assay development and infectious disease; including Burkholderia species, Escherichia coli, Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Human Papillomavirus. He is registered with the American Society for Clinical Pathology and active member of American Society for Microbiology, American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science and Association for Molecular Pathology. Dr. Whitlock was Assistant Professor in the Departments of Clinical Laboratory Science, Microbiology and Immunology at UTMB prior to joining the IVD industry.
